Charter of Rights: The part of the Constitution that guarantees rights and freedoms for individuals.
Constitution: The documents (including the Charter and the Constitution Act of 1867), that specify how Canada is organized and governed. Executive: The branch of Government that has the power to administer and enforce laws. Federation: A union of smaller states (provinces), where the role of each level of government is entrenched in the constitution. |
Judicial: The branch of government that has the task of settling disputes according to the law.
Legislative: The branch of government thatt has the power to make, alter and repeal laws.. MLA: Member of the Legislative Assembly MP: Member of Parliament Riding: A geographical area determined by population. There are 308 ridings in Canada. Each MP is elected to represent the people of a particular riding. |
